About Us Rainey Devine, Attorneys At Law
Rainey Devine is built upon a philosophy of customer service and close client relations. We strive to combine the comprehensive expertise and skill of a large law firm with the loyalty and close personal ties that can only be found in a small practice. Our ultimate goal is to better serve your needs by identifying the simplest and most elegant solutions to the most complex problems.
Our History
The predecessor to Rainey Devine was originally founded in 1976 as the private practice of Charles R. Rainey, Jr. Charles Rainey, then a recent graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, opened a small, general practice law office in the Northern Virginia town of Sterling. Mr. Rainey’s original intent was to develop a small country practice in a rural Virginia setting. However, the rapid economic growth and shifting cultural dynamics of Northern Virginia frustrated Mr. Rainey’s attempts to build a “small-town” legal practice. The rural surroundings of Mr. Rainey’s practice were quickly developing into a major metropolitan area.
Over time, Charles refined his practice to specialize in real estate, estate planning, and business transactions; and, in 1979 , he moved his office to the fast-growing D.C. suburb of Vienna, Virginia, on the edge of Tyson’s Corner. Over the last three decades, Charles has built his practice upon a principled focus on customer service and sound ethics. Even though the urban growth of Northern Virginia forced him to re-envision his “small-town” practice, he still adheres to those small-town ideals of fostering close client relations and providing the highest standards in customer service.
In 2008, after Charles’ son, Chaz Rainey, left his position as the in-house legal counsel to a Nevada-based gaming company, Charles and Chaz Rainey decided to merge their practices into one multi-jurisdictional law firm, Rainey Legal Group, PLLC, building upon the same principles that Charles had fostered in his preceding three decades of practice.
Chaz eventually took the reigns of the firm and expanded its practice into new industries and new areas of law. Chaz has also embarked on an aggressive growth strategy, seeking to, not only grow the firm’s client base, but also expand in to new geographic markets.
William Devine II joined Rainey Legal Group, PLLC, in October 2009, to expand the firm’s practice to include consumer and small business bankruptcy, debtor/creditor law, and expand on the existing intellectual property practice area.
On January 1, 2011, the firm’s name was changed to Rainey Devine.
Today the firm is a fast-growing multi-disciplinary, multi-jurisdictional practice, with six offices and plans to open more offices throughout the United States and throughout the world. With more than 500 clients, located in both the United States and abroad, Rainey Devine continues to build upon its successes, hiring talented legal professionals as it expands into new markets, industries and areas of law.
